Board Member Spotlight "Meet Priscilla Salas"

This month, we’re honored to shine the spotlight on Priscilla Salas, who has served on the Lamar Educational Awards Foundation (LEAF) Board for over 12 years. As a dedicated Financial Aid Director, Priscilla brings invaluable insight and a passion for education that drive LEAF’s mission forward every day.

When asked about her “why,” Priscilla shared, “LEAF encompasses my three passions: community, service, and education. LEAF provides Board Members many opportunities to engage with those served.” Her commitment to students and families is clear in every role she takes on, both professionally and through her work with LEAF.

As a higher education professional working as a financial aid director at Wharton Jr College, Priscilla is invigorated by helping students and families navigate lifelong learning. She’s especially inspired by LEAF’s newest vocational high school scholarship, which opens doors for students pursuing career-oriented college paths and entering the workforce soon after graduation.

Priscilla believes LEAF’s greatest impact is its ability to provide resources that help develop both students and classrooms in meaningful ways. For her, the most rewarding part of serving is learning directly from students, teachers, and school administrators about the real difference LEAF’s support makes.

When she’s not advocating for students, you might find Priscilla enjoying primitive camping, hiking, or canoeing — a fun fact that reflects her love for exploration and connection with nature.

She hopes to see LEAF continue to grow, supporting students not only in the classroom but also as they pursue higher education opportunities. “Public education can establish a strong foundation for success in life,” Priscilla says. “As a higher education professional, I am able to assist in the continued growth of students beyond secondary education.”

Priscilla also highlights the board’s diversity and camaraderie: “In various aspects, the LEAF board encompasses a tremendous amount of diversity, and our ability to work well together has contributed to our growth as an organization. Additionally, we have a lot of fun together!”

We are grateful for Priscilla’s dedication, vision, and the passion she brings to LEAF’s mission of igniting opportunities for students and educators across Lamar CISD.
