Beverly Richard, a retired educator with an impressive 45 years in public education—40 of them in Lamar CISD—has been serving on the Lamar Educational Awards Foundation (LEAF) Board since 2018. Currently holding the position of President, Beverly brings her passion for education, tireless work ethic, and creative organizational skills to the foundation’s mission.

A true “worker bee,” Beverly lends her time and talents to both daytime and evening events, excelling in preparation, setup, and creative planning. Her favorite LEAF program is the New Teacher/Staff initiative, which provides $100 to brand-new teachers for classroom preparation before their first paycheck—a simple but powerful gesture that fosters a lasting relationship with LEAF.
Why Beverly Serves
Beverly’s “why” is rooted in a quote by Muhammad Ali: “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.” This philosophy inspires her service not only with LEAF, but also with the Rosenberg Railroad Museum Board and the State Steering Committee for Project Learning Tree.
LEAF's Impact
Beverly believes LEAF’s greatest impact lies in its ability to support students from their earliest years—through programs like free books and educational field trips—to providing scholarships as they transition into higher education.
For educators, LEAF opens the door to big dreams through teacher and travel grants.
Looking Ahead
That the next 25 years will see even more community involvement—because, as she says, “many hands make light work.”
Fun Fact
Beyond her dedication to education, Beverly loves cooking and has an impressive cookbook collection, even editing and producing two cookbooks over the years.
She values public education for its ability to prepare all students—not just academically, but with life skills such as teamwork and problem-solving.
