With the arrival of the new CTE building, the CTE programs will be expanded even further! This includes the wonderful Culinary Arts Program, through which many students have been able to explore their love for food production, management, and so much more!

Melissa Harrington, through her LEAF-funded grant Hands-On Pasta Innovation for Culinary Arts Students, was able to expand hands-on culinary instruction within the Culinary Arts program for her students.

Cooking Made Engaging

Thanks to the LEAF-funded grant, students in this program received many tools from KitchenAid, including a pasta roller, cutter, and press attachments to do some amazing things! Not only were they able to produce fresh pasta, but they were able to learn authentic pasta-making techniques alongside this, including all the steps! They carefully created their unique pasta by preparing their dough, developing textures, shaping their pasta, and properly cooking it in the end!

But beyond just making pasta, the students were actively developing their culinary skills that they would be able to use in the real-world. For those that wish to pursue this line of work, learning about how restaurant production works, exploring the intricacies of food science, and expanding their knowledge on international cuisines is all imperative!

And thanks to this LEAF-funded grant, these students were able to participate and do all of these things.

You can see a lot of these items being used in action, and sometimes, you can just see the impact in the students' faces.

Recipes for Success

As with many other LEAF-funded projects, these students were able to engage in activities and use resources that would otherwise not be present without the help of LEAF-funding. And not only were they able to develop academically, but they gained important life skills, as well.

As a student gets older, they're required to make important decisions that could help them grow beyond education! And experiences like these could make these decisions all the more easier for them. By being able to participate in such hands-on learning like this, the students were able to collaborate with others and think critically about their decisions, fostering further engagement! By being able to authentically apply their knowledge of culinary concepts, they gained a glimpse into what their future could look like, perhaps even motivating them to continue forward with this work!

This impact beyond the classroom just goes to show how useful LEAF-funded grants are. They equip students with the tools, like all these pasta attachments, to explore what they already enjoy even further, putting the students in a safe, engaging environment that they feel comfortable to grow in!
