At Adolphus Elementary School, Coach Tosch was able to put her plan and her students into motion. 1,000 PK-5th graders in Coach Tosch's physical education program got the opportunity to experience the beginnings of a lifelong health journey, thanks to the High Fives & Healthy Lives grant!
They received many grant-funded supplies, including push-up testers, heavily utilized by the 3rd-5th graders, and Nutri Play food beanbags, used by the PK-2d graders. As a result, the students were able to engage in essential life skills, such as individual goal setting, teamwork, and perseverance.
Not only were the lives of 1000 developing children impacted, but due to strongly implemented practices, a legacy was created that will continue to impact students for years to come!

"I want to promote a lifetime commitment to fitness, self-love, and appreciation for each student's unique health journey." - Karen (Carmel) Tosch
And that is exactly what Coach Tosch was able to accomplish, thanks to her LEAF grant-funded supplies! For the students at Adolphus Elementary School, the High Fives & Healthy Lives grant gave them fun, inclusive activities and innovative equipment that fostered their social, emotional, and physical growth. They learned how to set goals for themselves and track their progress and how to identify healthy vs. non-healthy items in a safe, positive environment.
The impact was clearly visible. As a result of categorizing healthy vs. non-healthy foods, the students were able to develop positive healthy habits. The colorful batons, new hurdles, and push-up activities provided exciting challenges for the students, encouraging them to care for their fitness journeys and to stay healthy. Overall, a strong increase in physical fitness was noticed in most students who actively engaged with the innovative and inclusive fitness equipment.
In Pursuit of a Lifelong Fitness Journey
The success of the High Fives & Healthy lives grant goes to show that by making fitness fun, accessible, and meaningful, a lifelong commitment to physical activity, health, and wellness can be inspired within anyone. By having fun, the students were motivated to develop healthy life goals that they will practice even in the future. Instilling such healthy ideals within students this young also helped them develop a positive health awareness, and an overall positive, creative outlook on their own personal growth.
